Tragic Plane Crash in Ahmedabad, India: 110 Confirmed Dead & More Expected

A major aviation tragedy occurred near Ahmedabad, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, where a passenger aircraft crashed, resulting in the death of 110 people. The plane was carrying a total of 242 individuals, including passengers and crew.
According to Indian media reports, the aircraft crashed near the airport in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff. It was a state-run Air India flight that had departed for London.
Indian police confirmed that the plane crashed into a doctors’ hostel building, causing a massive fire and structural damage. The flight had just taken off when the crash occurred. There were 230 passengers and 12 crew members on the flight. As per official sources, the passengers included:
- 169 Indian nationals
- 53 British citizens
- 1 Canadian
- 7 Portuguese travelers
- 11 children were also on board the ill-fated flight
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India reported that the pilot had sent out a “Mayday” distress signal at 1:39 AM, just moments before the aircraft went down.
Media sources stated that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took off at 1:38 AM, and within less than a minute, it had reached an altitude of 625 feet before losing contact with air traffic control. Following the crash, operations at Ahmedabad Airport have been temporarily suspended. All flights in and out of the airport have been halted until further notice.
This incident marks one of the worst aviation disasters in recent Indian history. Rescue teams, emergency services, and investigators are currently on-site, while the nation waits for more updates on the full extent of this tragic event.
