Punjab Govt. Started Registration for E-Taxi Program

The Government of Punjab has officially started the registration process for its Electric Taxi Program (e-Taxi), under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This eco-friendly transport initiative is part of the province’s plan to reduce pollution and modernize urban travel, starting with Lahore.
Initial Launch: In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be introduced in Lahore.
Partnership: The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Transport and Mass Transit Department and the Bank of Punjab.
Charging Infrastructure: Charging stations powered by solar energy will be installed. Some of these may be built at current petrol stations.
Who Can Register & How
- Eligible Applicants: Vehicle manufacturers (OEMs), authorized dealers, local distributors, and joint ventures can register electric vehicle (EV) models that meet the required technical standards.
- Deadline to Apply: Interested parties must submit their applications by Tuesday, June 24, 2025, before 11:00 AM.
- Application Address: Submit forms to the Transport and Mass Transit Department, 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore.
- Clarification Session: An official information meeting will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the committee room of the department.
To make the purchase easier, the Punjab government is offering financial help, which includes:
- Equity Support: Financial assistance for down payments.
- Loan Scheme: Five-year loan plans through Bank of Punjab.
- Registration Cost Sharing: Government will partially pay the vehicle registration charges.
- Financing Limit: Maximum of Rs. 6.5 million financing per vehicle. If the vehicle costs more, the remaining amount must be paid by the buyer.
How to Apply
- Forms Availability: Application forms can be downloaded from transport.punjab.gov.pk or obtained from the Transport Department office.
- Documents Needed:
- Duly filled application form.
- Copy of applicant’s CNIC.
- If someone else is submitting on behalf of the applicant, an authority letter on Rs. 50 E-Stamp Paper is required.
