Punjab Government to Set Up 2,000 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the Province

The Punjab government has announced an exciting new project to support electric vehicles (EVs) by installing 2,000 EV charging stations across the province. This major step is part of Punjab’s vision to promote clean and green transport, reduce air pollution, and move towards a more eco-friendly future.
This initiative is aimed at:
- Reducing the use of petrol and diesel vehicles
- Encouraging the public to switch to electric cars and bikes
- Fighting air pollution, especially in cities like Lahore and Faisalabad
- Supporting Pakistan’s national policy for green transportation
The 2,000 charging stations will be installed in different phases in:
- Big cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala
- Small towns, so EV users don’t face trouble while traveling
- Highways and motorways, especially at service areas and rest stops
You’ll also see EV chargers at:
- Shopping malls
- Parking lots
- Government offices
- Petrol stations (as add-ons)
- Bus and transport terminals
The project will be carried out by the Punjab Energy Department, along with:
- Private companies (through public-private partnerships)
- Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB)
- Transport Department
The government is inviting local and international companies to invest and help install the stations.
Each station will be equipped with:
- Fast-charging machines ranging from 50kW to 150kW
- Charging ports for cars, bikes, and electric buses
- Some stations may use solar energy to reduce electricity use from the grid
First phase (2025): 500 stations in major cities
Second phase (2026): Expansion to smaller towns and highways
Final goal (by 2027): All 2,000 stations up and running
This decision to install 2,000 EV charging stations across Punjab is a big move toward a cleaner and smarter future. It will make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles and help protect the environment. With this project, Punjab is leading the way in promoting modern, green transportation in Pakistan.
