PTA Announced Free WiFi at Universities

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched an important digital project in 2025, under which free Wi‑Fi internet will be provided to students in HEC-recognized universities all over the country. This initiative is part of PTA’s efforts to promote digital learning, especially among female students and those studying in remote or underserved areas.
The project officially began on June 20, 2025. Students will enjoy free internet access for six months on their university campuses.
The service is being rolled out at all universities recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Women’s universities are being given special preference to promote female education.
The project is led by PTA. Major internet providers such as PTCL, Nayatel, Cybernet, Transworld, and Wateen are working with PTA to provide high-speed Wi‑Fi on campuses.
Main Goals
- Reduce the digital gap by reaching areas with limited internet access.
- Support students by giving them fast and free internet for research, online classes, and assignments.
- Empower female students by giving priority to women’s universities and helping them stay connected.
- Promote digital learning as part of the “Digital Pakistan” vision.
Under this program, 200 locally assembled smartphones will be given away to female SIM card users across Pakistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan through a computerized lucky draw.
This free Wi‑Fi project was announced as part of the celebration of a huge telecom milestone—Pakistan has now crossed 200 million mobile users.
- Over 150 million people are using broadband services.
- Around 2 million people now have access to fast fiber-optic internet at home.
- PTA, along with mobile companies, marked this achievement by also offering free 2 GB mobile data and 200 call minutes to all users on June 20, 2025.
