Pakistan and Azerbaijan Sign $2 Billion Investment Agreement: PM Shehbaz Sharif Concludes Successful Visit

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major breakthrough in Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations, confirming that both nations have signed investment agreements worth $2 billion during his official two-day visit to Azerbaijan. The announcement was made as he concluded his trip and departed for Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, PM Shehbaz Sharif shared that the recently held Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Azerbaijan was a major success. One of the most important outcomes of the summit was the signing of agreements between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, paving the way for $2 billion in investments in various sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
He extended his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his warm hospitality and commitment to strengthening economic ties. The Prime Minister said that future cooperation with Azerbaijan, especially in investment and trade, would continue to grow.
The ECO member states also reached a consensus on addressing urgent environmental concerns, particularly the melting of glaciers in the region. PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of joint efforts to combat climate change, achieve sustainable development, and promote regional connectivity.
During his visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif held important bilateral meetings with several regional leaders, including:
- Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan
- Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, newly elected President of Iran
- Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye
- Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan
These high-level discussions focused on enhancing regional peace, economic cooperation, bilateral trade, and diplomatic relations.
As PM Shehbaz concluded his visit, he was seen off at Fuzuli International Airport by prominent Azerbaijani officials, including:
- Minister of Education and Science Emin Amrullayev
- Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov
- Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Moinuddin
- Other senior government and diplomatic officials
At the ECO summit held in Khankendi, the Prime Minister represented Pakistan’s stance on regional and global challenges. He highlighted the importance of increased trade, economic cooperation, peace, and connectivity among member states.
The $2 billion investment agreement is seen as a milestone in Pakistan’s economic diplomacy. It not only reflects growing trust between Islamabad and Baku but also opens new avenues for collaboration in energy, infrastructure, technology, and trade.
