NHA Successfully Auctions 68 Toll Plazas Across Pakistan

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has recently completed a major step toward transparency and revenue generation by successfully auctioning 68 toll plazas located at key national highways across Pakistan. This is the first time in NHA’s history that such a large-scale public auction was held, and it was a significant move toward modernizing and improving the toll collection system.

The auction was organized on June 20, 2025, at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. It was a well-publicized and open event, attended by investors, business professionals, NHA officials, and the media. The event began at 10:30 AM, and it attracted wide attention due to its transparency and fair bidding process.

In total, 68 toll plazas across various major highways and national routes in Pakistan were auctioned. These include plazas from several cities such as:

  • Ensure fair leasing of toll plazas by eliminating favoritism or corruption

The auction was held under the direction of Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, with NHA Chairman Shehryar Sultan and other senior officials present to ensure a transparent and fair process. Media presence was also encouraged so that everything remained open and clear to the public.

This auction marks a major policy shift by the government to improve the way highways are managed. By involving private investors through a transparent bidding system, the NHA aims to:

  • Improve toll collection efficiency
  • Boost earnings that can be reinvested in road construction and maintenance
  • Build public trust through fair and open systems
  • Set a new standard for other government departments to follow

The successful auction of 68 toll plazas is a major achievement for the NHA and the Government of Pakistan. It shows a serious commitment to transparency, accountability, and modernization of the country’s highway system. With increased revenue and better management expected from this initiative, Pakistan’s road infrastructure is likely to improve in the near future.
