LAHORE: The Namaz-e-Janaza of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, will be offered at Sharif Medical City, Raiwind near Lahore today (Friday).
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the wife of former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, passed away at London’s Harley Street Clinic on Tuesday after a prolonged battle with cancer.
A PIA flight carrying the casket landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore at 6:40am today from where it was shifted to Sharif Medical Comlex, Jati Umra amid strict security.
At least 13 family members including PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif also returned on the same flight. Hamza Shehbaz, Salman Shehbaz, Yousaf Abbas, Aziz Abbas and Ata Tarar were present at the airport to receive the body.
The former first lady’s funeral prayer will be offered at 5:00pm following which she will be laid to rest beside the grave of her father-in-law Mian Sharif at Jati Umra.
On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif is overseeing arrangements for Kulsoom Nawaz’s funeral in Lahore.
The ousted premier paid visit to Sharif Medical City to oversee and finalized arrangements for his late wife’s last rites.
PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb told media Begum Kulsoom s funeral in Lahore would be held at Sharif Medical city adjacent to the family’s Jati Umra residence on Friday at 5pm.
The police has formulated the security plan according to which nine vehicles of elite force will patrol in various areas. Eight walk-through gates have also been installed at two points.
Moreover, security personnel have been deployed at 19 places. They include three superintendents of police (SP), three deputy superintendents of police (DSP) and six station house officers (SHO).
