India Abandons Kashmiri Students in Iran Amid Rising Tensions

India has come under strong criticism for allegedly abandoning students from Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir who are currently stranded in Iran, amid the escalating conflict involving Israel.

Over 1,500 Kashmiri Students Left Helpless

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), more than 1,500 students from occupied Kashmir are currently studying in various Iranian cities, including Tehran and Ahvaz. As tensions rise due to recent missile threats and military activity in the region, these students find themselves in a desperate and vulnerable situation.

“We keep calling the Indian embassy, but there is no response. They are completely silent,” said several stranded students.

No Evacuation, No Assistance from Indian Government

Despite the deteriorating security situation in Iran, India has not taken any concrete steps to evacuate or assist its Kashmiri students. Sirens are frequently sounding in Iranian cities, and hostels are shaken by the fear of possible attacks, but no support has been provided by Indian officials.

KMS reported that the indifference of the Indian government is heartbreaking, especially as these young students are on the edge of danger. Parents of these students, back home in Kashmir, are making constant calls and prayers, but these seem to be falling on deaf ears.

Other Countries Took Action — But Not India

In contrast, countries like Pakistan and various Arab states have successfully evacuated their citizens and students from Iran during the ongoing crisis. However, India has forgotten their kashmiri students in Iran.

Some have suggested that if the students were Hindu rather than Muslim Kashmiris, the Indian government’s response might have been very different.

The report described how the cries of helpless Kashmiri mothers are metaphorically echoing off the walls of Delhi’s corridors of power — but receiving no acknowledgment.

No Mention in Indian Media, No Voice for the Stranded

The global media is extensively covering the worsening situation in Iran. However, there is little to no coverage or concern for the Kashmiri students trapped there. The Indian Embassy in Tehran remains silent and uninvolved, acting as a “mute spectator,” as described in the report.

“We are making phone calls again and again, but no one is answering from the embassy,” the students said.

Reports of Attack Near Student Housing

A female student, in a video message shared online, appealed for urgent help. She revealed that an attack took place near the boys’ hostel of Tehran University, leaving several students injured.

She added that internet access is extremely weak in Iran right now, and other essential services are also failing. She made a heartfelt plea to the Indian government to urgently evacuate the students, as the situation is becoming more dangerous by the day.
