Heavy Rains Causing Floods and Destruction in Northern Areas of Pakistan

Continuous and heavy rainfall has caused serious flooding in Upper Dir and Kohistan, resulting in the death of a child and causing major destruction to roads, bridges, homes, and the power system.

Popular tourist destinations such as Jahaz Banda, Lamoti, Badgoi, and Kumrat Valley have been severely affected by the recent spell of rain. Overflowing rivers and streams in these areas have created a flood-like situation.

Unfortunately, due to the rising water levels, a child lost his life, adding to the sorrow of the local community.

Bridges Collapse and Roads Cut Off

  • At least three connecting bridges in Jahaz Banda, Lamoti, and Jandari have been washed away by the strong water currents, cutting off access to several remote villages and tourist spots.
  • Floodwaters have also swept away many houses, link roads, and farmland, leaving the residents disconnected and helpless.

Parts of the Kumrat Road have been heavily damaged, trapping tourists in the valley. Long queues of vehicles were seen stuck as roads became impassable due to the flood.

In Patrak Bazaar, the flood entered the market area, filling shops and houses with water, and causing heavy losses to business owners and families.

Electricity System Breaks Down

  • Several small hydropower stations were damaged or washed away by the floodwaters, causing complete disruption of electricity in the affected regions.
  • Locals are now facing power outages, making their struggle even harder during this crisis.

The floods also caused severe damage to crops and fruit orchards, particularly in low-lying farming areas. Farmers are concerned that the destruction will badly affect their income this season.

Although local authorities have started rescue and relief operations, damaged roads and dangerous water levels are making it difficult for teams to reach the worst-hit areas.

Heavy rains in Upper Dir and Kohistan have brought widespread destruction. A child has died, many areas are underwater, bridges and roads have collapsed, and the electricity supply is cut off. With tourists stranded and locals in distress, immediate action and strong support from the government are needed to manage this emergency and help the affected families recover.
