Govt. Plans to Issue Over 116,000 New Gas Connections in Upcoming Fiscal Year

Despite a nationwide shortage of natural gas, the government of Pakistan has finalized a major plan to issue more than 116,000 new gas connections during the upcoming year 2025-26.
According to official budget documents, the government has set a goal of providing 115,530 new domestic gas connections across the country. Along with this, the plan also includes extending gas access to 550 new commercial users and 350 industrial units.
Region-Wise Gas Connection Distribution
The distribution plan has been clearly divided between the two main gas companies:
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will provide 30,530 connections in its coverage areas, including Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is assigned to deliver 85,740 new connections in Sindh and Balochistan.
Comparison with Current Fiscal Year
In the ongoing fiscal year, the revised target was only 20,061 new gas connections, which shows a huge increase in next year’s target. This clearly indicates the government’s determination to expand gas access, especially in areas that are still underdeveloped or underserved.
Purpose Behind the Expansion
The main objective of this initiative is to improve the availability of gas services to households, businesses, and industries, even though the country continues to face limited natural gas supply. By increasing the number of connections, the government aims to promote economic activity and meet the growing energy demands of the population.
