Good News! Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Production Increased

Pakistan’s oil and gas sector has shown signs of improvement, as the country recorded an increase in daily production of crude oil and natural gas. This development was shared in the latest report by the Petroleum Information Service (PPIS) along with insights from energy industry sources. The figures cover the week ending on June 16, 2025, and present a positive outlook for the country’s energy supply.
According to the shared data:
- Pakistan’s average daily crude oil production reached 56,716 barrels per day during the week ending June 16.
- This marks a 1% increase from the previous week, where the country produced an average of 56,176 barrels per day.
This slight increase is a step in the right direction, indicating that oil exploration and extraction activities are becoming more efficient, and operations are running smoothly across major oil fields.
In addition to oil, the country’s natural gas production also witnessed a boost:
- During the same week, the average daily production of natural gas stood at 2,718 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD).
- This is a 0.6% rise compared to the 2,702 MMCFD produced during the previous week.
Although the increase is not huge, it reflects stability and improvement in the overall performance of gas fields.
The report also highlights the contribution of major energy companies operating in Pakistan. These companies play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the country’s energy output.
Crude Oil – Average Daily Production (Week Ending June 16):
- OGDCL (Oil and Gas Development Company Limited): 28,929 barrels per day
- PPL (Pakistan Petroleum Limited): 8,479 barrels per day
- POL (Pakistan Oilfields Limited): 3,946 barrels per day
- Mari Petroleum Company Limited: 1,331 barrels per day
Natural Gas – Average Daily Production (Week Ending June 16):
- OGDCL: 590 MMCFD
- PPL: 432 MMCFD
- POL: 40 MMCFD
- Mari Petroleum: 860 MMCFD
These figures show that OGDCL and Mari Petroleum remain the top contributors to both oil and gas production. Their consistent performance plays a crucial part in meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands.
The increase in local oil and gas production is encouraging for several reasons:
- It helps reduce the country’s dependence on imported energy, which can save foreign exchange reserves.
- A more stable and self-reliant energy sector supports industrial development, transportation, and electricity generation.
- Steady production levels provide better planning opportunities for future energy policies and investment decisions.
Though the weekly increases in oil and gas production are moderate, they reflect a positive trend and operational improvement. If this momentum continues, it could lead to even better results in the coming months. The efforts of companies like OGDCL, PPL, POL, and Mari Petroleum show that with the right strategies and efficient resource management, Pakistan’s energy sector has the potential to grow stronger and more reliable.
