Excise & Taxation Punjab’s Vehicle Registration System Facing Technical Breakdown – Citizens Affected

The Motor Vehicle Registration system of Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department has been out of order for the last two days, causing major inconvenience to people throughout the province.

According to official sources, the system is currently undergoing a revamp and necessary upgrades. This technical upgrade has been initiated to accommodate recent changes in certain tax rates, which requires updates in the software and database infrastructure. As a result, all vehicle registration-related activities have come to a halt temporarily.

People visiting Excise offices in different cities of Punjab have expressed frustration over repeated visits amid extreme summer temperatures, only to find that no services are being offered. Many complain that despite the halt in operations, Excise staff are often seen chatting and sitting idle, showing little concern for public inconvenience.

Several citizens have raised concerns about the timing of the system upgrade, arguing that such maintenance work should have been scheduled during weekends or holidays to minimize public disruption. The delay has especially affected those with urgent registration or taxation needs.

In response to growing public complaints, the Director of Excise assured that the department is working diligently to restore the system. He added that the upgrade process is in its final stages and there is hope that the registration system might become operational by the next day.

The disruption in Punjab’s motor vehicle registration system highlights the need for better planning and communication by government departments, especially when system upgrades impact thousands of citizens. Until full functionality is restored, the public continues to face serious delays and discomfort.
